Comment conjuguer le verbe « to read » en anglais ?

La maîtrise de la conjugaison en anglais constitue un pilier de la maîtrise de la langue. Si la grande majorité des verbes sont faciles à conjuguer, il existe une catégorie spécifique que l’on appelle les « verbes irréguliers ou « irregular verbs ». Le verbe « to read » fait partie de ces verbes irréguliers qu’il faut connaître par cœur. En effet, les verbes irréguliers ont leur propre forme et ne suivent pas les mêmes règles que les autres verbes, notamment pour le prétérit et le past participle. Ci-après la conjugaison de « to read » aux différents temps des verbes en anglais.

Infinitive and imperative of to « read »

Comme tous les verbes en anglais, l’infinitif de ce verbe est « to read ». En tant que verbe irrégulier, le prétérit et le past participle de ce verbe sont spécifiques et n’ont donc pas besoin que l’on ajoute « -ed » à la fin comme pour les autres verbes :

Infinitif : to read

Prétérit : read

Past participle : read

Quant à l’impératif, il y a « read » pour la deuxième personne du singulier et la deuxième personne du pluriel et « let’s read » pour la première personne du pluriel.
